Snowbank Lake is located at the end of the Fernberg Road about 18 miles from Ely and is approximately 4,600 acres in size. The Lake is extremely clean and clear, with the deepest spot being 165 feet. Excellent fishing for walleye, lake trout, smallmouth, largemouth, northern pike and silver pike. There are 5 lakes that can be reached via portage off of Snowbank Lake. There are 2 boat launch areas. We are renting our cabin from Saturday to Saturday, by the week, only. Bed linens and bath towels provided. You will need to bring your own swimming towels, paper towels, toilet paper, laundry detergent, dish soap, dishwasher detergent, trash bags and toiletries. Speedboats, tubing and jet skis are definitely out of character here. This sparkling clean little 150 acre lake offers fishing, canoeing, swimming and just plain gazing out at. Our 3 complimentary canoes provide a perfect way to explore the lake. The dock, which pokes out into the narrows in front of the cabin, is available to cast your line from or could accommodate your own small fishing boat launched from the public landing across the lake. Lake Gegoka is a shallow sandy bottomed lake and warms up early in the summer. Just a few minutes away is a little used public swimming/picnic area on Flathorn Lake. There is a very scenic hiking trail around it. Lake Superior's North Shore is only about 30 minutes away and provides many opportunities for day trips, including Split Rock Lighthouse tours, the Superior Hiking Trail and some of Minnesota's most popular State Parks. It's a great place to cool down on a warm day inland and grab a bite to eat or a special souvenir. Ely is a 45 minute drive and has a variety of good restaurants and unique gift shops. This lively little town is the jumping off point for Boundary Waters Canoe Area trips and has some great attractions for rainy or sunny days. Both the International Wolf Center and the North American Bear Center are great places to learn about 2 of the area's wild residents. The Soudan Mine tour is a fascinating look back in time to 'hard rock' underground mining on the Range in the early 1900's.

Welcome to Brother Bear Lodge located on White Iron Lake outside Ely, MN. Our home features 4 bedrooms, 2 full baths, air conditioning, 2 fireplaces, a sauna and wireless internet service. Brother Bear can comfortably accommodate two families and we have sleeping spaces for 12. Our cabin is the original outfitting building used by White Iron Beach Resort. The resort was founded in 1917 making it one of the earliest resorts in the wilderness area. The original outfitters building has been transformed into a year round lake home. It is fully furnished with all new everything! We have a gas fireplace, air conditioning, wireless service, a very large deck, great room with large dining table and an additional family room with HD TV, satellite service and an additional fireplace. We have also recently added a three season porch for bug free relaxation overlooking the lake. We have a fully equipped kitchen with a dishwasher and microwave. The wood paneling that surrounds you was harvested from the blow down of the great storm of 2001. All on a single level for those who don't like steps (you will need to climb some steps to get into the cabin). For the more adventuresome we offer easy access to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA), one of the wildest places in the USA. Overnight access to the BWCA is closely monitored by the US Park Service and we strongly recommend you make plans ahead of time if you plan to camp in the BWCA. Our neighbors include deer, wolves (largest population in the lower 48), black bears, fox, bald eagles, and the occasional moose. While we are located in the Great Northwoods we are only a short drive to town. Ely has been called the 'coolest small town in America'. It features many quaint shops and restaurants. If you run out of supplies there are 2 full service grocery stores in town as well as several places for sporting equipment, bait and the like. The area offers many places to boat, hike and fish as well as interesting attractions like the Soudan Mine. The North American Bear Center and International Wolf Center are both located right outside opposite ends of town. These provide a chance to learn about and see up close our most famous residents (hopefully you will see them while at the cabin, but not as close). Several world class golf courses and a casino are located within a reasonable drive, Giant's Ridge and Fortune Bay among them. There is a sandy and shallow beach,sauna,canoes and kayaks for use, boats for rent and a family friendly resort lodge that offers games, books, and good company. We sit in a bay with a quaint island offshore, while the lake itself is 7 miles long and part of a chain of five lakes. We have access to the Boundary Waters right from our shore. White Iron Lake is known for its large Northern Pike and Walleye as well as Bass and Crappies. If you would like a guide to help just ask we have guide service available. For the more adventuresome we offer easy access to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA), one of the wildest places in the USA. Overnight access to the BWCA is closely monitored by the US Park Service and we strongly recommend you make plans ahead of time if you plan to camp in the BWCA. Our neighbors include deer, wolves (largest population in the lower 48), black bears, fox, bald eagles, and the occasional moose. While we are located in the Great Northwoods we are only a short drive to town. Ely has been called the 'coolest small town in America'. It features many quaint shops and restaurants. If you run out of supplies there are 2 full service grocery stores in town as well as several places for sporting equipment, bait and the like. The area offers many places to boat, hike and fish as well as interesting attractions like the Soudan Mine. The North American Bear Center and International Wolf Center are both located right outside opposite ends of town.

White Pine Retreat is a cozy log cabin overlooking a small, quiet lake in the heart of Superior National Forest. It’s just 8 miles south of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW). If you’re looking for a quiet, intimate experience with nature, you’ve found your destination. In the summertime, most of our afternoon and evening meals are eaten on the lakeside deck which expands the length of the home and wraps around the sides. This deck includes a picnic table for six, a round table for six with an umbrella, a tete-a-tete chair, a gas grill and a charcoal grill. The deck is a perfect place for a game of bean-bags or mini ping-pong(both included) or just a great place to watch the evening sunset. The main level of the cabin features an open floor plan with tasteful north woods decor, vaulted ceilings, knotty-pine, custom log furniture, hardwood floors, two master bedrooms, full bathroom, the main kitchen, dining room and living room. Each of the master bedrooms is well appointed with either a queen-sized or full-sized bed, luxurious high thread-count sheets, comfortable mattresses, bedding and ceiling fans. The well-stocked modern chef's kitchen has a large center island with three bar stools, garbage disposal, dishwasher, great pans and all of the utensils, appliances and dishware that you would hope for and expect. The lakeside living room is well-appointed with high end leather furniture (a double chez U-shaped couch and two huge leather chairs with ottomans), a custom upholstered bench by the window and a game table with antler chandelier perfect for an afternoon puzzle. The entertainment center has a television with satellite cable, DVD player, CD player and over 80 VHS tapes and DVD's for you to enjoy. A gorgeous antler chandelier hangs above the formal log dining table which will more than comfortably seat all those in your party. Downstairs you will find rooms filled with sunlight! The walk-out lower level has two sliding doors which lead directly to the pathway down to the lake. You will find another fully-stocked kitchen, 2 more bedrooms, a cozy family room, another full bath, laundry room and a wonderful and cozy cedar-lined sauna. The family room overlooks the lake and includes a sleeper sofa, a table for four, wireless internet (bring your laptop), a log desk and a Wii console complete with Wii games. The first of the bedrooms has a queen bed, two closets, a television with satellite cable and a sliding door. The other lower level bedroom has a queen-sized bed, look-out windows, a modern sink and two closets. All of the linens on the hand-made log beds are extremely high-quality and comfortable throughout the property. Rest assured that much effort has gone into ensuring that each of the bedrooms is special in its own way! A short walk down the landscaped pathway with gradual, wide steps takes you to the lake shore. Our private dock is perfect for tying up your motorized watercraft that you bring or for one that you rent from the local lodge. If you decide not to bring your boat or to rent one, we have included the use of our two aluminum canoes, fishing kayak for one and our kayak for two at no additional charge. The neighborhood boat access is just down the road from our home but is not visible from our property. White Iron is 3,429 acres and is part of a chain of lakes that include Garden Lake, Farm Lake and South Farm Lake, all of which are motorized lakes. The White Iron Chain of Lakes is a locals' favorite with a good population of Walleye, Northern Pike, Smallmouth Bass, Rock Bass, Bluegill and Black Crappie providing great fishing for anglers of all ages! White Iron Lake is in Ecological Lake Class 7, which consists of 41 lakes in northeast Minnesota that are very large, have irregular shoreline shapes, and have very soft (unmineralized) water.The Kawishiwi and Bear Island rivers flow through it and the inlets make for popular fishing spots. Cedar Rock Lodge is a two bedroom family owned cabin located on a rock bluff over hanging Shagawa Lake. ( 1350 square feet living space). Newly Renovated features all include new appliances, furnace and central air, furniture and pillow top beds. During remodeling, a new four season porch was added and deck overlooking the islands. This custom cabin is a one of a kind gem tucked in the cedar trees offering a private escape. Built in the 1940’s by a local craftsman, this cabins exterior is a solid rock structure masoned from the Ely rock bed the cabin rests on. The interior features a coordinating stone fireplace. The original owner took pride in his craftsmanship and customized pine paneling, trim, window framing and built in cabinetry. In the spring of 2012, we began remodeling the historical cabin taking special care to preserve its beautiful bones and adding modern touches to enhance the look and feel. This cabins decor has a quaint feel that makes it a unique Northwood’s experience. Most guests tell use they find it charming. The cabin sleeps 4-5 people. The entire house has received new flooring and window treatments. The bathroom has a standard sized walk in tiled shower with sitting area. The kitchen is fully equipped with a microwave and new appliances. The Sun porch overlooks the lake and walks out to a patio/fire pit area that the original owner built into the rock cliffs in the yard. The cabin has his and her bikes, games, puzzles, books, dishes, binoculars, and flat screen with cable TV and dvd player. It is nicely appointed with the conveniences of home. You will have plenty of opportunities to view wildlife in the back yard. The cabin has many families of ducks that often reside in the tall grass along the shore, chipmunks that can be hand feed on the deck, and loons swimming in the Bay. Tucked in the woods on a rock bluff this location is about as secluded as you can get without a boat and still within minutes to local dining and amenities. Friday to Friday rentals only with minimum one week stay for Summer rentals. Saturday to Saturday starting in September. Winter rates available for snow enthusiasts or those who chose to snuggle in by the fire with a book. Minimum night stay in the winter is 3 nights Winter rates are available starting the third week in November through the last week in April. The price includes the cabin rental and a $100 cleaning fee. Due to privacy, it does not include snow removal during the stay unless substantial amounts of snow falls. This newer hand scribed 1,700 square foot log cabin on 2 acres of property and 200’ of frontage on the pristine waters of Lake Burntside is only 9 miles from Ely town ctr and minutes to the boundary waters canoe area. The open plan cabin has a master bedroom and full bathroom on the main level as well as a loft with full bath, sleeping up to 6 in beds and another 4 in cots provided. It has a fireplace, fully equipped kitchen, washer and dryer, great views and large patio overlooking the lake as well as a new barrel sauna down by the water and dock. In the summer, use our canoe or keep your boat on the dock as you enjoy fishing, watersports, canoeing and endless water activity on the +7,000 acre Lake Burntside known for its crystal clear waters as well as it’s fishery of Lake Trout, Whitefish, Walleye, Northern, perch and pan fish . For winter, the home is well insulated with heated floors so take advantage of abundant cross country and snowmobile trails (snowmobile trail passes right by property on lake) or enjoy snowshoeing, ice fishing, dogsledding, or just relaxing with hot cocoa or wine in front of the fire. Enjoy fall colors by taking a hike on one of the many trails within minutes of the cabin.

The refrigerator the stove ready to use and the fire place has direction on how to ignite if you need it. If the generator is not running there's no electricity and the well pump isn't running so… There's only one flush after you shut the generator off. If this is not your thing, please do not inquire, there is no electricity (although there are 2 propane lights) and the generator should not run 24/7! Be reasonable and know if you are adventurous enough to stay in an off the grid cabin and the nuances that come along with it. The generator is easy to operate, just the turn of a knob, and the cabin is very comfortable. Be prepared to stay in a true off the grid cabin that is very high-end and nice but is not for the faint of heart although we have made many efforts such as battery and LP operated lights throughout and motion sensor lights outside to help accommodate guests. This is it, catch Walley, and Northern Pike and crappie on Nels Lake just down the road less than 1/4 mile! There are no homes on this Federally owned lake... best kept secret. Our Home is on 20 acres that abuts Federal land, Ok to hunt with your permits, all guns must be registered with the county, easy car access. Come to fish, hunt, canoe, or just bird watch, practice yoga, read or write a book, hike, bike and meditate. Feels like you are secluded yet you are less than 13 mile from down town Ely.
